"The Lords of the Rings: Return of the King" won four Critics Choice Awards at the 9th annual ceremony held in January of 2004 at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The film won Best Picture, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Director, and Best Composer. "Mystic River" was the only other film that won more than one award. It won both of the male acting awards - Sean Penn won Best Actor and Tim Robbins won Best Supporting Actor.
