The incumbents won Vermont's three major races in the 2004 elections. Patrick Leahy easily won re-election to the United States Senate from Vermont. Vermont Governor James Douglas also won re-election, as did Vermont's only congressman - Bernard Sanders. Sanders is the longest serving Independent in the history of Congress.
