Jerry Brown, who served as California's governor from 1975 - 1983, would return to that post after the 2010 election. Brown defeated Republican Meg Whitman - the former CEO of eBay - with relative ease.

Barbara Boxer won re-election to the senate over Republican challenger Carly Fiorina.

51 out of 53 congressional districts sent their incumbents back to Washington. Republican Jeff Denham won in the 19th District after the retirement of George Radanovich. Democrat Karen Bass was newly elected in the 33rd.
