Democrat governor John Lynch won re-election to a fourth and final 2-year term over challenger John Stephen.

In the U.S. Senate incumbent Judd Gregg retired after three terms and his open seat was won easily by Republican Kelly Ayotte (former New Hampshire Attorney General) over Paul Hodes.

In the House races Republican Frank Guinta knocked off incumbent Carol Shea-Porter in the first district. In the 2nd district Republican Charles Bass won a close race to fill the seat vacated by Hodes.
