The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4 games to 3 to win the 2006 Stanley Cup playoffs and the Stanley Cup.

Captain Rod Brind'Amour (left) won his first championship, while goalie Cam Ward was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of the playoffs.

The Edmonton Oilers had made a very nice playoff run as the eight seed in the Western Conference.
