The Pittsburgh Penguins won their third Stanley Cup and first since 1992 when the defeated the defending champion Detroit Red Wings 4 games to 3.

The 2009 finals were a rematch of the 2008 finals when Detroit beat Pittsburgh in six games.

Sidney Crosby, who wasa injured in game seven, became the youngest captain of a Stanley Cup Champion (21 yrs old).
