The Los Angeles Kings entered the 2012 playoffs as an eight seed, but lost only four games total in four series to win the Stanley Cup. The only eighth-seeded team to win the title.

It was the first championship for the Kings franchise. They had only appeared in the finals one other time - in 1993 with Wayne Gretzky.

Goaltender Jonathan Quick was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs.
