The 83rd Miss America pageant was held January 26, 2008 at the Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas. Kirsten Haglund, Miss Michigan, was crowned Miss America 2008.
There were three evenings of preliminary competitions. For the first time, the field was narrowed to sixteen contestants - 15 chosen by the judges and one by an internet vote.
After the swimsuit competition six more were eliminated. After the evening gown competition two more were eliminated.
