Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins received 27 of the 28 first place votes to be a near unanimous choice for the 2009 American League Most Valuable Player.

Mauer led the American League in batting with a .365 average and became the the fifth Minnesota Twin to win the award. He also led the league in on-base percentage (.444) and slugging (.587).

Yankees Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter finished second and third. Detroit's Miguel Cabrera received the only other first place vote and finished fourth.
