Andrew Bailey, the 25 year old reliever for the Oakland A's, posted 26 saves and was the winner of the 2009 American League Rookie of the Year.

Bailey received 13 first place votes and became the seventh Oakland A to win the award. He finished with a 1.84 ERA which was best among American League rookies.

Texas shortstop Elvis Andrus finished second in the voting.
