Duke University point guard Kyrie Irving was the first overall selection in the 2011 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers. Derrick Williams of Arizona went second to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Four of the top seven players taken were from Europe (Enes Kanter, Jonas Valanciunas, Jan Vesely and Bismack Biyombo).
