Roger Federer won his 18th Grand Slam singles title and his first since 2012 when he beat Rafael Nadal in the final of the 2017 Australian Open.

The score of the five-set contest was 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3. Both semifinal matches were five-set marathons as well. It Federer's fifth Australian Open title and he won as the 17th seed.

Top seed Andy Murray lost in the fourth round, and number two seed Novak Djokovic was upset very early in the second round.
