Flavia Pennetta wins the U.S. Open
Sep 12, 2015
7-6, 6-2
USTA National Tennis Center - New York, NY
Runner Up:
Roberta Vinci

33-year-old Italian Flavia Pennetta won her first major at the 2015 U.S. Open, and then announced her retirement immediately following the match. She is the oldest first-time grand slam champion in the open era.

Pennetta defeated upstart Roberta Vinci by a score of 7-6, 6-2. Vinci, a fellow Italian, was coming off a huge upset of top-seeded Serena Williams in the semi-finals. Williams had seemed a shoo-in for a calendar slam.
