The 72nd Annual Academy Awards were presented on March 26, 2000 in the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. "American Beauty" was the Oscar darling for 1999 taking five major awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, and Best Director. "The Matrix" won four technical awards. Billy Crystal hosted the year that 55 Oscars were taken from a warehouse and later found in a dumpster.
