The 2002 Winter Olympics were held in Salt Lake City, Utah and athletes from 18 different countries won gold medals in 78 total events. Skeleton returned to the list of events, and women's bobsleigh was introduced to the Winter Olympics - where Vonetta Flowers became the first black athlete to win a gold medal in the Winter Olympics. Canada won both gold medals in ice hockey, and Ole Einar Bjorndalen won Gold Medals in all four biathlon events. Winning three gold medals apiece were Samppa Lajunen in Nordic Skiing and Janica Kostelic in Alpine Skiing.
